Time is short, so I've been tying up loose ends. I've hired someone to clean my house (a totally new venture for me), scheduled to get DSL installed (so I can study my school's online materials), and finished painting my laundry room (sunflower yellow). I also cooked about a month's worth of dinners, leaving my freezer quite full, but hopefully saving me some headaches later on. Somehow I'm managing to get most of my mental pre-med school to-do list done! I'm sure there is something important that I am forgetting.

Two days ago I completed my series of hepatitis shots for school. Because I only had one MMR as a child I had to get one of those, and the school also requires a tuberculosis test so I got that done as well. My daughter was glad that I was getting the shots instead of her! Usually the school requires that students be up-to-date on tetanus as well, but with the current shortage of the vaccine they are exempting us.

I've been getting my shots at the city-county health department and I've been quite impressed with them! With schools starting quite soon, they were very busy, although mostly with children. I had made an appointment for my shots, but the TB test wasn't included in that appointment. The wait to get the TB test was quite long, but I had to get it done that day or wait a whole month (the MMR interferes with TB testing). I called my school to see if they had a problem with me waiting a month and they suggested that I go to one of their clinics. They let me just drop in to have the test…and to have it read today. In fact, when I went in today, the receptionist knew I was a student and told me to just grab my chart and go on back. It felt a bit odd to walk around as if I belonged there already!

Last weekend I had dinner with some of my soon-to-be classmates. It was nice to get a chance to meet a few people before orientation actually begins! We had a good time chatting and everyone got along well. I hope this holds true for the entire class!
