Does the school offer campus childcare for medical students?
No
Does the school offer a mentoring program for students
with children? Same as program offered all students.
What maternity leave options are available to women
students? Can take leave. However, leave during the basic science education
often requires it being for a few weeks or a full year since these courses are
offered only once a year and to miss more than 2-3 weeks is impossible to make
up. During the clinical years they can float a rotation. There is enough time
in the schedule that a student could take 8 weeks off and still graduate on
time. Longer than that is likely to delay graduation.
Please describe any other options or services available
for students with families and/or pregnant or nursing mothers. The same
options, support and courtesies offered to all students. Nursing mothers and
pregnant women can alter their schedule within the limitations noted above.
Average number of class hours per day: During basic
science years 5. During clinical years the student can range from 40-80 hour
weeks depending on the service. We follow the same criteria as the ACGME about
an 80 hour work week is maximum.
Average number of patient contact hours each day: Average
numver of patient contact hours each day - during basic science years <1,
during clinical years 6-24 depending on the service.
