ha, I totally started getting the "itch" around then too, but we waited a bit longer until my anesthesia year started so I wouldn't start that AND feel sick and tired. But I know what you mean! And hate to tell you, but it just got worse

That is an interesting statistic, Path. Do you happen to know if that is only for recent years, or if it reflects past decades as well? I imagine that the termination rates have gone down as medicine has become a little more family friendly, but I

I volunteer with Komen and have for many years now. My guess is that this was a political move, but I really haven't looked much into it.

I agree with good enough, it's not to hard to imagine how/why you'd consider reducing your pregnancy and ultimately, you have to do what's best for your FAMILY. I'd also like to say that it's very hypocrital for someone to judge your thoughts about

Yeah, do it in Oct. I picked Dec mainly because I was chicken about failing, but really had nothing to worry about. You'll be fine.

Can you speak frankly to anyone at your fellowship about what the options will be if there is a complication?

Ugh. It totally is register-for-preschool time... but it's a lot more expensive to hold a slot in a preschool than to get on a daycare waitlist. My 2cents: preschool is awesome but is lower stakes than childcare overall, and I'd hold off until matc

I am going thru this right now! I am 20 weeks and just finishing week 4 (of 8) in surgery. The unfortunate thing about my pregnancies (besides the nausea that ended 2 weeks ago) is that I get vasovagal reactions on random occasions...and I have overh

I had my first in the summer after MSI. I wanted to be able to breastfeed for a year (and the becomes harder once MSIII begins). Looking back on my delivery, the hardest thing for me was the 8 week brain fart I had postpartum. I was waking up 3-4 tim

I'm also a mother of twins, though mine came during my 3rd year of psychiatry residency. Challenging, but I'm not going to even pretend it's as tough as renal fellowship. Still, I can identify with the worries about career sacrifice. I'd never even

A quick FYI: we've got a story and poll about this on the front page. Opinions are varied, but I think the MomMD community has a unique and important role to play in the debate. http://www.mommd.com/komen-foundation-and-planned-parenthood.shtml

Have you thought about being a PA? You are done in two years, and you could easily work part-time. It might be the perfect fit for working in medicine, but balancing a family the way you'd like.

Yowza! $1400? :*( Good call, megboo. I took mine mid-Dec and it worked out well. I found out today that I passed! Also: Can we write this crazy stuff off on our taxes? This is kind of a huge chunk of our household budget!

I vote for starting fellowship, then delaying the finish. With twins everything is so unpredictable, and pregnancies for WIM are not always the easiest, even when a first pregnancy has been easy. I say plan for the worst, hope for the best. At t

If you do not want your children in daycare, you will have to have at least one spouse stay home. I would have to say a career in medicine is most likely incompatible with what your vision is for family. Although there are some who are doing part-t

It doesn't change much. You'll be fine with the previous year's book and can go to the First Aid website for errata correction.

I'm also in the anti-reduction camp. I ended up completely out of rotation when I had pregnancy complications and delivery of my son last November, and it worked out in the end. No amount of money or curriculum could ever come before my child.
