This started as an innocent little thing. My son has a page and I ask him to say hi to my friends from time to time. Well they all finally agreed that I should just get my own page.

Now I'm hooked... it's a total drug. I'm finding old friends from school (nursery to medical) and long lost family. And playing really stupid games too.

Is anyone else sucked in by this tempting little devil of a website?

Linda

OMG I started med school 2 years ago and had never heard of it. All my classmates spent hours on it and I thought it was a huge waste of time. Got tricked into opening my own page last year. All went downhill from there, especially recently when I found out that people from my home country have it too. Finding tons of middle school friends, wasting tons of time. As if I had that time to waste. Sigh.

The one thing I haven't allowed myself to get sucked into is all the applications and games. "Walling" and chatting are time consuming enough.

Haha, when I spent too much time on there, I closed my page down for a while. Just opened it back up and the addiction is gone smile

I am still wondering about the loss of anonymity with Facebook. Specifically, are horrible ex-boyfriends going to be able to track me down? wink Or is it worth that risk just to be able to reconnect with people I do like?

sahmd, that's the part that makes me hesitant as well. I had a MySpace profile to connect with my high school and medical school classmates-briefly. Soon after I started it some ultra-creepy patient came in for a follow up visit and had searched the internet for me. He had actually found MomMD and had read through my blog...kept bringing it up. I refused to see him again and took down the Myspace immediately. There are some people on Facebook that I would like to connect with (one of my friends is a member and one former residency classmate is begging me to join), but yes, my horrible ex is on there, and I don't want to connect with him!

There are privacy settings you can use. In order to see your page and your profile, people must be your "Friend". If I get friends requests from people I don't know or don't want to be in touch with, I just ignore the request and they wouldn't know anything about me.

Oh yeah! I have over 200 friends and that number is growing every day. I have found many pre-school classmates, and I'm even friends with the mean girls from my old "all girls school", LOL!!! My favorite ex boyfriend found me there too and we both have kids already =0)he's the twin of Matthew McConaughey...oooohhhhhh!!!!!!

Got my mom and dad hooked too and my 3 siblings. Many of my relatives are there too! It's a great way to stay in touch with everyone in one private place.

I don't have time for the games, and I keep getting all kinds of flowers and gifts that I can't even reply too....

I got a new car and became a member of a group with the same car and I'm the only female there talking about cars, lol!!!

I'm also in the groups for all my schools in 3 different cities and my ex classmates can't believe how much I've changed....some I last saw 20 yrs ago and I cry when we found each other.

I was asking a few of my patients and colleagues today, and you guessed it, they're all addicted. It's tempting. I can see myself getting hooked quickly. I struggle with insomnia already! There are some people that I would really like to be in touch with, like my high school acquaintance who I have heard is struggling with cancer. But...ex-boyfriends, ex-roommate, wacked out male patients. Yikes.

Weighing whether it's worth it...
