I need advice!
I am 35 weeks pregnant, I am due to have OUR FIRST baby Nov. 15th! But I have also receieved my first med school interview on Nov. 19th. I know I can't make that so I must reschedule. My question is....when should I reschdule the interview or how much time should I give myself to recoup after the baby? I will be breastfeeding as well.
I want to be healed and mobile, but didn't want to put it off TOO LONG...so to all the veteran moms...what do u think? I want to pick a date that I can stick to without having to reschdule again. Please help

I, personally, would schedule it 2 weeks after the due date--the thing is though, you could go over.
I think physically, if you have a vaginal delivery (I have no experience with C-sections), within 2 weeks post delivery you should be feeling okay enough to go.

Agree. After vag. delivery you should feel well enough to do interview 2 weeks after delivery, but you might want to get input from someone who's had a c-section. I would schedule at least 3 weeks after your due date, in case you go over. Most docs will induce at 41 weeks, especially if you have a compelling reason to get delivered.

Even after a c-section, you should be well enough to go on a local interview within a few weeks. After my c-section, I was back at work in my residency...on a light rotation. It was good. I didn't have much pain, the vaginal bleeding had decreased. I didn't require any pain meds. And I had more energy than I did when I was 9 months pregnant, for sure!!
Any delivery may end up as a c-section. So, you want to prepare for this. Baby due on 11/15. They will induce within 2 weeks of this date. And worse case, induction fails, and a c-section is performed. This could mean (although unlikely) that your c-section could be 11/29. If you push your interview back one month...maybe the week of 12/12 or 12/19...I think you'll be okay, and not have to reschedule. Keeping in mind, that you probably won't go 2 weeks past your due date...and you may not require a c-section at all. So, this timing allows for lots of "wiggle room."
Congratulations and good luck!!

Hey guys I got another interview today on Nov.18 (also have to reschedule)!! Yeah, 12/12 or 12/19 does give me a good amount of wiggle room, I'm just so nervous about putting it off that long, :crossfingers: my first is with the U of KY and they typically have their class complete before the new year. But its better than having to reschedule. I just have to pray all works out ok. OK next question, how should I word the email requesting a reschdule (I should go on and get a general letter)...do I say I apologize but due to medical reasons OR a previous commitment (be specific or evasive)...blah blah blah. Also, do I suggest a date or give a time range, is that too forward? . Thank u EVERYONE for all ur advice!!

No...I wouldn't tell them why I had to reschedule. I would let them assume that I already have an interview set up that day. Or I'm on a rotation that won't let me off very easily or frequently to interview. You just say "you know, I'm not going to be able to make an interview on X day, can I reschedule it for day Y, that day works so much better for me..." I don't think the secretary that's scheduling interviews need a long explanation as to why you have to change the date.
And, another perk of waiting a few weeks...you'll lose more weight, and look less pregnant.
I don't think an interview in early/mid Decemeber is a disadvantage. (There are programs that interview into February.) When I was applying there were students who wanted later interviews because 1) they were convinced that later interviewees are "remembered" better by the programs when they compile their match list in February, and 2) later in the interview season they were more comfortable interviewing, and "better" interviewees.
It'll all work out!!

I'm sorry!! I'm giving advice as if you're a medical student applying for residency!!
Most of what I wrote applies regardless.
I don't think mid December is too late...even if the "rumor" is true, and the class is chosen before the new year.
And I still don't think you should (or need to) give lots of details about changing the interview date.
