I thought I would be able to, finally, finish up my undergrad and premed reqs. this past fall. As you may know from my previous post, that didn't happen. Well, I didn't give up but I did choose a better school. I have been accepted to Tulane for the Spring but they kept losing my financial aid paperwork. So, now they are out of need-based aid (except for Gov. grants). I did receive a Collegiate Scholarship Award for $9000 a year. :goodvibes:

The only way I can go is to take out a loan for around $8000.00. Would you do it? OR would you wait and re-enroll and hope you get more aid for the Fall of 2005/2006?

What to do???? :scratchchin:

If $8,000 is all you need to borrow to finish, then do it and finish. Most people do not get out of undergad with that little debt. PLus there is no reason why you can't make payments before you have to to knock it down early.

My undergrad debt was $25,000 of which I am making payments on while in medical school since I am unable to defer (long story).

My medical school loans to date are $125,000 and climbing. If med school is your dream why wait if the loan money is avail now when in the long run the dollar amount is going to be large anyway?

Just a thought.

8,000 is a lot of money. 8,000 in relation to all the huge costs for medical training is a small piece. my HEAL loan payments are on auto pay and i rarely think about them. to me it is "just the cost of doing business".

and time IS money wink

I wouldn't wait either, I just couldn't do it.

I get financial aid and still have to take out the max loan amount every semester just so me and my family can survive (I don't even have medical insurance). I just don't think about the money, I can't because anyone going to medical school is going to have so much debt it will make your eyes roll...but to me it is totally worth it and not something I am going to stress out about.

Good luck with your decision smile

Marilyn
