Major in whatever you like. The caveat is that if it is non-science, make sure you have some upper level bio courses as well as your pre-reqs.
Med schools actually LIKE well-rounded, well-educated people, so don't be afraid if you want to study French Lit or something else. The science you can be taught. It's the art of medicine that is so much more difficult and subtle. And though I know I am biased, I think a good liberal arts degree helps you more with the people side of things.
Better yet, be smarter than the rest of us and be a business major - one thing they never manage to teach in med school and residency, is about the business side of medicine.
