The more practice exams you can take the better. You can buy them from AAMC.

I felt I got a lot out of Kaplan's review course. I agree that doing as many test questions as possible is great to do because it points out some areas to work on. I felt that the practice test scenarios in my course was helpful to get me in the test taking mindset as the tests were administered on Saturdays, were timed, had other test takers in the room, and resulted in useful score sheets. The course WAS expensive though, but I thanked my mom for that.

I will have to agree with the other posters, the more the better. It may seem expensive, but really its a drop in the bucket when you consider the long term expense of attending medical school. eek

I guess that i wil be the negative on this post. I spent maybe $50 studying for the MCAT and did fine. My score was higher than average and i hadn't finished taking the med-school prereqs like Org and Phys II. I think it just depends on the person. most of the people that i know who took the prep course didn't score any higher on their subsequent tests. as a matter of fact, their scores went down by 1 or 2 points.

The biggest issue with the MCAT is stress and timing. DO NOT let it get to you. it isnt as bad as it seems or as bad as others make it out to be. I found the actual test to be rather easy compared to the practice tests that i had been taking. make sure to take a timer with you too. thats what hurt me the most. my lowest score was in reading comp because i lost track of time and didn't get to finish it.

i wouldn't shell out anymore money. join a pre-med society and you can get practice tests from them. they usually have a test bank for classes and the mcat. if not, spend a bit more time at the book store and borrow their books while you are sipping some java!!

good luck to you.
