My name is Samantha. Currently I am taking the under-graduate requirements for medical school. I check into MomMD regularly, and it helps me greatly to get through the semester. However, there is always one worry that bothers me day and night. What if I don't get into medical school?

Sure, I will reapply the following year, but what should I do during the year of waiting? Should I just continue with school and get a masters degree? Or should I get a job with my Biochemistry degree? What kind of job can I possibly get with a Biochemistry degree? And why does the process seem so slow?

Sincerely,
Samantha

Wow, what a common fear and I could list for days your options for that year of waiting. This happens for a lot of folks but the point is to not give up. I have a good friend in my medical class who tried three years in a row, then he got into a great school (my school! :goodvibes: ) and is doing just fantastic.

Here are a few things I could think of:
1. Job in your degree area or in research
2. Job in Medical area--shows your committment and gives you a head start in clinical skills.
3. Volunteer work, peace corps, mission work. Only drawback: if you are overseas it is hard to interview! BUT, you could do this a year and then apply and this would look FANTASTIC on your resume.

Good luck to all you applicants out there. I know this is a tough process and you start to think you will NEVER get in. Believe me, if you persevere you will get in eventually.

Yours,
Elise laugh
