BABY #3 is on board (just barely)-- due 1/06! Right smack dab in the middle of residency. :hyper:

I've got baby #2 brewing and due on Halloween. I am feeling quite green lately!

Wow, you're just barely along! How exciting! What are you doing your residency in again? Will you be able to take much time off?

Dagny--I've got bun #2 in the oven as well. Due mid-October--peak interview season. I'm still feeling a bit green too (at 17 weeks). But boy am I hungry all the time anyway! How does that work? eek

I am doing residency in FP. I talked with my PD today to tell him I want 8 weeks minimum after birth. He is going to research the guidlines and see how that can work, including maybe doing home-based electives and of course the wonderful opportunity to take my entire vacation too. That is hospital policy, not his. My program is very supportive, and I will be seeing one of my attendings for prenatal care until she transfers me to an OB for my section. I am feeling sick way earlier than ever before- someone jokingly suggested twins, and now I am scared to death! eek Congrats to you other pregnant ladies! :grouphug:

mbp - It's crazy how you can be all nauseated and vomit...and 10 minutes later, think "I wonder what there is to eat around here?" tired

I'm not pregnant, but my birth control pills make me nauseaus, and since I assume it's the same mechanism, I'll share.

I have to eat every 2 or three hours to keep the nausea from popping up during the first half of the month, so I just keep yogurt or a bananna with me all the time. I find that keeping something in my stomach makes the nausea go away.

I was really sick with my first pregnancy. Someone recently asked me "what did you do for that?"- to which I replied "I lost 18 pounds". Because nothing, and I mean nothing, worked. I was sick as stink, vomiting 10 times a day. Fortunately it did not last forever, and I gained back that plus 31#. :crossfingers:

I showed way earlier with baby 2, so no doubt my secret will not last long. Trying to make it to 12 weeks without maternity clothes, but I am not exactly slim to begin with  , so any size change is a problem. I am having an ultrasound at my first appt, in 12 days. Not that I am counting. wink I always like to see that heartbeat and know that everything is going well. If there are 2, you will not be hearing from me, as I will not be able to type from my straight-jacket.

Hi everyone. Congrats to all of you. I also want to make my "secret" announcement- I'm almost 10 wks pregnant! The nausea started almost immediately- before we even took the test. But it got really bad around week 5. At least now I can usually eat when I feel hungry. The only times I've vomited where when trying to brush my teeth. The gag reflex is hypersensitive. I've lost a couple of pounds- hard to imagine gaining weight at the moment.

My friend got me Preggie Pops- sour flavored lollipops. They helped. Also chewing ginger candy.

Hang in there mommd preg buddies!

Congrats to all the "secretly" pregnant moms! Hope you all have a happy and healthy 9 months.

Residentmom- you amaze me! May I ask how in the world you've managed to make it with 2 young kids during internship? I'm starting my internship in a few weeks and am scared to death about how my kids are going to make it without me. How do you handle call nights? What do you do when your kids get sick? Are you allowed to call in sick during residency to take care of a sick child? If so, who covers for you? Any info or words of wisdom much appreciated.

MOC- The most important thing is a support system. Ours is sketchy, but functional. We moved away from both of our families for residency :banghead: I am hoping to use 15 for maternity leave and the other 6 for sick days/ family events I must attend. I try not to cause extra work for my colleagues, so that makes it more challenging sometimes. Occasionally I think I should switch to babysitting- they make nearly as much as I do! You will probably hit a few bumps along the way, but you will figure out a way to make things work. I still cringe every time I see the daycare number on my pager, though! wink

I'm really happy for you guys...you do realize that you all are the epitome of the "modern woman" wink
I hope the entire experience is a wonderfully gratifying one.
I'm kinda jealous frown
I'm presently waiting for my period and hoping that it won't show up.
Yep, decided to take the plunge.
Scared as hell sometimes but wanting it too, badly

First of all... congratulations!!!

And secondly, its very nice to hear that there are brave women who are taking care of their families at the same time as their professions.

One question though: Did you check the hospital/medical facility policy on pregnancy or its pretty standard across the board?

hey guys, i am curious as to how long it takes to become nauseous. does it happen before your missed period? i am taking boards on the 8th, ovulating on the 17th. we were thinking of trying this month but i am cvurious if 2 weeks is enough to get nauseous. realize it probably won't happen this month, but w/the way that my third year schedule is, i want to get the show on the road smile
would appreciate your experience

I think the nausea thing varies by person and pregnancy--I didn't get sick until my 10th week or so and still am at 17.... Go figure.

BUT I just learned today (drum roll please)
It's a boy!
I'm so excited. Our first was a girl, so this is new and wonderful. But boy names are so much harder to decide on.... Hmmmm. Now for some more ice cream. laugh

Wow, so many pregnant mommds out there. I'm glad I have company! I'm 15 weeks, and just getting over the morning sickness...hopefully. :crossfingers:

With baby #1 I was so sick...so I took action this time. I ate low fat foods and took megavitamins with lots of folate prior to conception...just in case I couldn't eat a balanced meal later on. I drank tons of water...and starting taking unisom/B6. I must say, although I'm not morning/allday sickness-free...it's a lot better than the first time. I think the unisom/B6 scaled my near-hyperemesis gravidarum to regular morning sickness. And for that I'm feeling very blessed.

I start feeling sick at about 6 weeks...and last pregnancy it lasted well past 20 weeks. Into the 3rd trimester I don't remember being as sick...but I do recall complaining about N/V the *entire* pregnancy. Couldn't drink water, couldn't eat fruit. I had excessive saliva and a metallic taste in my mouth. It wasn't fun. This is why I had me more proactive this time around...and look for a safe solution.

Keep positive vibes coming this way...being pregnant is a very...anxiety provoking time, isn't it?

Now, onto 2nd trimester...and the anxiety of prenatal testing, ultrasounds, etc.

Time for my "secret" announcement. I'm pregnant too smile !

This is number one, due 1/17/06. I'm still in shock--got a positive HPT on Mother's Day. I'm scared to death that it's not going to "stick". Trying to think positive.

No morning sickness yet, but I'm pretty tired and have been getting (oddly) SOB after walking up stairs, etc.

I ran into my OB at the hospital a couple of days ago, and he's got me scheduled for an US in less than two weeks (YAY!! I think medical school finally paid off--LOL) .

Oral boards are next weekend for me--and I'm having a hard time staying focused on studying. Keep your fingers crossed for me please! I'm hoping the morning sickness will hold off until boards are over :crossfingers:

Congrats to all the other pregnant mommds!!

that's my EDD too, of course that was the first thing I checked. :goodvibes:
This is really cool. laugh Congrats

Doesn't quite feel real does it?
I haven't really told anyone yet.
Part of being a doctor or going through med school is that u know all the statistics.
Just trying to hang in there until week 6-7.
Fortunately I can have an U/S anytime, but I think I'll just wait until then.
I can't sleep at night, I feel like doing the test again for 3rd time to make sure.

I haven't really told anyone yet, either- waiting for that first ultrasound. I did have to tell my chiefs and PD so that my schedule for next year could be rearranged before it got posted and would be much harder. We are sending cards to the grandparents with US pictures in them. For the first we gave them all bibs for Valentine's Day that said "Grandpa loves me", etc. Second one we just called, everyone knew we were trying. This one will be a surprise to them, so wanted to do something fun. I am always so nervous until I see that heartbeat!

I'm not an OB, but anecdotally, I've heard reports of heartbeats visuallized at 6 weeks by transvaginal US.

Got my fingers crossed that I'm going to see ours next week smile .

The pregnancy bug must be going around...I just got a positive test this morning! It doesn't seem real AT ALL yet. But according to my trusty pregnancy wheel, my due date is around January 26. I'll be a fourth year...so interviewing for residency should be very interesting.

Congratulations Braids smile . Mine still doesn't seem real yet, either, and I found out two weeks ago.

Interviewing should be fine. What specialty have you chosen? We interviewed a couple of pregnant candidates during my residency, and they were very well received by all of our faculty and administration. Good Luck!
