Hi,
I have a 26 moths girl and We are trying desperately to potty-training her. She did good few days during the day and it seemed that she liked to do it although she just could do it right 2 times . Here's the problem: Now She does not want to go to the potty, she cries over and over that she does not want to go there although I can see her face when she is going to go popo ,and when finally she wants to go there she just want to sit in the potty and nothing else happens. She always said no popo while doing that...also she does not wanted to be changed immediately and it was different in the past. What do we do? I am kind of worried since new baby boy is coming in September 15th and it will be so hard with her and him, but the way that I am going to have a C-section and I could not hold her to be changed. Advice???

I always found that the best way to get a little kid to do ANYTHING was to stop telling them you want them to do it. Be very nonchalant, and say, "That's OK, when you're a big girl you will go in the potty." That's all. Don't say another word on the subject that day, and repeat once every day. The fastest way to make a toddler NOT want to do something is to tell them you want them to do it. Bowels and bladder are two things that toddlers KNOW you have no control over. Toddlers love control.

if your child has always been in diapers, she has essentially been 'trained' to go in her diaper. If you have been using disposable diapers, she is probably somewhat comfortable going pee in her diaper and she has become accustomed to poo in her diaper. If you are willing to endure a little mess, consider letting her be naked from the waist down and use a little potty that she can get on and off of by herself. Sometimes a new awareness of their bowel and bladder can speed up the process. Cloth diapers or even letting her wear long cotton pants also increase awareness of elimination. Sometimes feeling uncomfortable in this way also speeds up potty learning. A special book or toy just for potty time can also help. Lastly, I talk to my almost 2 year old about how I love her no matter what she does, but that I prefer she - insert wanted behavior. She usually chooses to do what I'd prefer. I also try to give specific praise instead of a general "good job" as the research I've read suggests general praise only produces short-term positive results. Long-term results are better achieved by more specific praise I.e. "Thanks for putting your poo in the potty. It meets our need for good hygiene."

I agree with AnnaM about the nonchalant mention about using the potty, too.

A little off-topic, my almost 2 year old is pretty much potty-learned, but we practiced elimination communication since she was 3 weeks old. She has on and off since 3 wks' age had varying success eliminating into a toilet, potty or sink rather than her diaper. A lot more work at the beginning, but she stopped pooping in her diaper waaay early on and that was sooo worth it! If you want info on that method for your second, I'm happy to share what worked for us.

Enjoy your pregnancy, your little one and healthy delivery/recovery with little number 2!

Thank you for your advices, mamabear I started doing what you suggested since we have the same way to potty training in my country, well it was more than a little mess and what I am a little worried is that ssh seems ok with that poo and pee and did not want to be cleaned at first.
Anyways I will continue with this I hopefully I will have success.
Thanks.

Thank you for your advices, finally she is asking for going pee ...at least I just need to change one diaper per day;-)...my dear husband has his way to help her and also my mom gave a good advice.
I am still hoping that she goes poo before my due date. Other than that I am still studying for my step 1...it seems a long way now 33 weeks pregnant with SPD and getting more tired easily each day. But over all I am so happy with God has given me.
Good weekend to you all
