Last night I couldn't sleep so I decided to flip on HBO and began to watch Flatliners half way through. It was the first time I'd seen it. It apparently was about med students who would put each other into cardiac arrest to see what death was like and then would revive each other before it was too late. Kinda stupid actually. What amazed me was how little time they actually spent in the medical school. All they seemed to do was socialize and experiment. I know, I know, its a movie. But us neurotic premeds and actual medstudents know better and I couldn't help but pick it apart.

In any case, I wanted to start a thread of other medically oriented movies others have watched and what they thought of it. Any takers?

Some "medical school" movies: Gross Anatomy, Patch Adams, Vital Signs, and Getting In. I think Getting In is a little known movie, but it's a funny premise and actually has well known actors in it (Calista Flockhart, Matthew Perry, Dave Chapelle). These, along with Flatliners, are all in my collection.

Enjoy

John Q. is a pretty good medical movie... kind of exaggerated, but still, it makes a point.

As part of our last month in med school, we watched and discussed the movie "Wit," starring Emma Thompson. An excellent movie - I highly recommend it, but bring kleenex.

Another movie I've enjoyed is "The Doctor" starring William Hurt, Christina Lahte, Adam Arkin and one or two other pre-"Chicago Hope" actors. Makes me think - am I going to be/am the kind of doctor I wanted to be 10 years ago when I decided to pursue the dream of becoming a physician?
