Erin, I think KCOM is my second choice school, 1st choice being my state school. They seem VERY friendly always helpful with questions. I get a warm, welcoming feeling. We'll see next year when I will hopefully get an interview. There is an Erin from mommd who attends KCOM. I know it is in a small town, without any malls etc. That would take some getting adjusted to for me, but it seems like a safe place. I know a family practice doc who went there who will be writing me a letter of recomm.

Hey! I'm the Erin from KCOM! I am a second year here and I have been very happy so far. You are right when you say the town is small and the school is friendly. I don't love the small town thing, but fortunately, you only spend your 2 preclinical years here. This summer I am moving to sunny Florida to begin my rotations! I would have to say that KCOM is pretty competitive compared to other osteopathic schools, but not quite as hard to get into as some allopathic schools (at least when you only consider numbers). What we always say around here is that an osteopathic school will turn away someone with awesome grades and MCAT in a heartbeat if they get a bad impression from them or feel that they are not doing medicine for the right reasons. D.O. schools are known for seeking out students that are well-rounded, caring individuals with good life experience. None of this is to imply that you don't need good scores. After all, the classes here are extremely demanding. KCOM puts out students who get awesome scores on the boards. These students become great physicians as well. We are taught here to care for the "whole patient." You will probably find that as an applicant to this school, you are being considered as a whole person and not just the sum of your numbers! Well, if you have specific questions, please ask! I wish you the best of luck throughout this process. I hope you find the place that fits you!

Hey ERIN (KCOM one)! How is it determined where you go for your rotations?

Hey guys! Thanks for answering me! My doctor who just delivered my son (in nov.) went there I think. He is a great doctor, in fact the best dr I have ever seen. He really left an impression on me about D.O.'s. I was wondering also what you have to have to get into KCOM (prior college wise) and what exactly are the rotations also and how do you get assigned or pick those. thanks! Erin

PremedRN, we do a match process. Everyone ranks their choices and it is determined by a computer program. Almost everyone gets their first or second choice. There is also a trade season after the list is posted. I got my first choice, so I was happy about that! Erin, I got your PM and I'll try to write back tomorrow. I'm leaving town though, so it may be a couple of days. We are on spring break!!!

Good for you! So there are no classes then, all rotations the last two years? Are there lots of places to choose across the US? Im curious. At my state's school I can go to campus here for the preclinical years, but the last two I have to move to main campus in Indianapolis.

The Doctor that I know went to Michigan for his rotations, but I am not sure about what happens on the rotations. I know that on the website it talks about the places you can go to for those. Erin

You can go to Michigan, Florida, Arizona, Colorado, Missouri, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Utah or Ohio. I think that's all of them. Of course, they are always looking into new sites so it can change from year to year!

Oh, I see. I hadnt run across that on the site, not that I can recall anyway. So there's no formal classes then during that time? Is that typical of the schools in general?
