Introduce yourselves! You don't need to be a mom to enjoy MomMD. About 20% of you don't have kids, let's get to know you. Don't feel you need to be a mom!

Hi - My name is Tami. I'm 26 and married, but no children. I also have two cats! smile

I am currently working as a CPA. I always wanted to go to medical school but panicked my junior year in college and changed my major from biology to economics to pursue a graduate degree in accounting. Well, I got my Masters and have been working as an accountant for over a year now - I've finally figured out it's not for me, and that medicine is my true passion.

I have to finish up some prerequisites and battle with some bad grades, but I'm really looking forward to it.

Tami

I'm 24 without any kids. My boyfriend and I have two dogs, though!! Sometimes they're so much work (one of them woke me up 4 times last night!) that I can't imagine having real kids! smile On the other hand, my mom wants grandchildren really bad, so I'm feeling some pressure. A lot of pressure...to get married and have kids. I don't know when that will happen. My boyfriend is a second year medical student.

I'm really interested in becoming a doctor. I have a BA in French and am now working on the science pre-reqs to keep my options open. I'm not sure what branch of health care I will end up in. I'm very concerned with how much time it will take to become a doctor and if my boyfriend I and I do marry and have children, will the children be in years of therapy for having two busy doctor parents??

Right now I'm going to school and working in clinical research (orthopaedics) at a Children's hospital. I'm loving it, but don't think I would want to be a researcher forever. You're always depending on the busy doctors to get info for you, etc. I could see it getting really frustrating down the road.

Sorry for the long post!
Bronwyn

I'm 22 and I have no kids yet. I do want to have some though, and fairly soon, so I've been avidly following all the posts about being pregnant during med school and during residency. We'll see.

I'm an engineering major, and I'm going to start medical school in the fall, and get married as well. He's not a Dr and has no desire to be, so maybe he'll have time for some kids.... he says he's only working until I start making "real money" smile He wants to be a SAHD and open a carpentry shop. (sooo glad he got that $100K undergrad education...)

MD to be and Mom to be eventually. cool

Hi ladies without kids!! i am 24 and also "living common law with my boyfriend" (i like that phrase M-A!). no kids for now, and i am glad. though i'm definitely looking forward to being a mom someday, i'm enjoying my young, kid-free life very much! i am happy to live without the responsibility of kids for a while longer. we do have a dog, which i think helps keep those "baby urges" in check. blush

right now i work as a medical paralegal, but in the fall i will start med school!! :rotfl:
i just can't wait. i am dying to hear back from the few schools left on my list, so i can know exactly what my choices are, and we can decide where we are moving!

Hello,
I've introduced in other threads. Nice to know being a mom isn't a necessity here. I'm an aunt though and see how much work it is for my sister. Yikes. Also, my cousin went through veterinary school with several children, (also the cats, dogs, birds, fish, etc.) She had my cousin helping and they were dedicated and a team. I couldn't imagine.

Jen
p.s. who couldn't say for sure if I will or if I won't ever be a mom??

School has my plate a little more than filled so there are no kids here. My boyfriend and I are looking into getting a dog to satisfy those "baby urges" though. Hopefully it all works out. wink

Although I am not a mother to any two-legged children, I do have two four-legged children: two cats named Shelby and Lucky.

I am 30 years old and I don't think I will have any of my own. I love children - especially when they are someone else's. You can enjoy them, then send them home to mom and dad. Then, you become the child's favorite person in the world, because you play, act silly and let them eat jelly beans for breakfast. laugh

Hi!
I just joined MomMD today and am excited to get to know some people on here. I am 29, RN, and just started pre-med classes. Due to my work schedule I have to take my classes independently for the first year, luckily it is stuff like Latin and Pre-Calc that can be done at home. :goodvibes:
I am excited about being pre-med finally, it has been a tough 5 years since I have been out of school with the marriages/divorces so I am glad to be doing something for myself.
It is nice to meet all of you! Look forward to getting to know people! :grouphug: Take care!

Hello, I'm 24 with no kids...but for sure we're going to have some one day.
I came here from Poland not even 3 years ago. It was supposed to be for a year, but I met Mike and...we just got married past October (+ we're having a big church weddin in Poland this coming July laugh ). There's lots for paperwork with immigration but hopefully I'll start working at school in September as an ESL teacher + if I get accepted (hopefully) I'll start biology in the fall, too (shouldn't take me longer than 3-4 semesters to get BA - a lot of my credits will transfer). And hopefully I'll get to Medical School some time in 2006.
I'm really happy that I found this website. I started thinking that I'm crazy thinking about medschool now - you know! it's so uncommon for a women in mid twenties to change careers in Poland...

HI everyone! I'm 24, engaged, with no kids. I'm trying to figure out how feasible it is to have a child during a surgical residency, and this forum seems like a great place for info! I'm currently a 3rd year student at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. Looking forward to sharing advice and ideas with you!

I'm 27, been married almost 8 years to a wonderful guy--- got my BA in French, was a programmer for 3 years, now finishing my prereqs for medical school. Loved the challenge and creativity in web programming -- but it just felt wrong. I wanted to to contribute more to the world (instead of just helping corporate America get fatter...)

No kids as of yet -- originally I was thinking of waiting until in med school or during residency--- now I am thinking I would rather have a baby BEFORE I go to medical school. I've decided that I'd like to be home for the first year (hopefully!). Then the kid will have plenty of time to hate me while I'm in school! My hubby works away a lot --so when we do have kids, I'll be a single mom most of the time (both our families are far, far away).

Nice meeting all of you smile

shelby2000 ... I am also that way! I want to be the cool & hip & exciting aunt! laugh

I love kids but the work which I believe requires just about 100% of your time -- I didn't have-- barely have time for work, exercise, grocery, cooking, cleaning , husband, & dog tired

Difficult decision to NOT have kids -- It is so profoundly EVERYWHERE- tv, grocery stores, restaurants etc.. that you can see the families all around you and wonder... hmmm... have I made the right decision??? confused

But after much soul searching & heartache...I believe that in the end, I have made the right decision for me.

I will really miss some of the best things about being a mother, but I guess I will also miss all the bad stuff too. :yikes:

Sethina.. wondering if there are any tshirts that say non-MomMD ??? wink
