Anyone else trying to plan a wedding this year? I'm getting married in October, and at this point, it's the last thing on my mind. I'm not sure who those Martha Stewart wedding magazines are aimed at, but it certainly isn't anyone trying to graduate, work as a doctor, or go to medical school!
Anyone else switching between white coat and white dress this year? Audrey

Hi Drey, Are you pre-med like me or are you already in med school? I'm getting married in August 2004 and like you, it is the farthest thing from my mind. Working full time, 6 days a week and going to school full time (early bird classes before work, then evening classes after work), it seems as if there is never enough time to do anything, least of all plan a wedding. Right now I'm trying to decide on a dress and it doesn't help that I'm kinda picky about it). I sometimes worry about having time to spend with my husband and about having children (i'm 33)and how medical school will affect all of this (assuming I manage to get in). But then my boyfriend is so sweet and encouraging. He makes everything sound as if it will be ok in the end. How are things for you?

suzyq, I'm also pre-med, but I will be going to med school in the fall after I graduate in May. I'm going to school full time and working in a lab, but it doesn't seem like I'm working as much as you are, and I still can't find the time to think about the wedding. In addition, my family lives in the midwest, and I'm out in Boston, but I want to get married in my hometown, so I'm planning a long-distance wedding. My fiance is extremely supportive of me going to medical school, but he also is leaving the decision up to me entirely as to where we're going for medical school. Sometimes I wish he would say "I like city A better" or "I found an interesting job in city B" so that I wouldn't be the sole "at-fault" for where we're moving to. Men! Supportive as long as they don't have to make the decisions. He's the same way about wedding details. "Whatever you like best." Good thing I love the man as much as I do. Good luck with your planning! Audrey

Hello ALL
I am gettng married in October. I am so behind the only thing that I planned so far is the hall. Am I in trouble. I have never done this before and of course my fiance feels that it is simple so he is not worried. He says all you need is a dress, flowers, music, limo, tux and of course he can not forget the wedding night attire and we are done. As women we know that there are so many in betweens that he is missing. Please help.

I'm a 2004 bride, too! July 10. I've never really imagined myself as a bride or planning a wedding, but here I am! This is a big (happy) deal for my family and his family, so it's been kind of stressing me out (I guess in a good way!). I let my premed courses take a back seat, and I'm pretty glad I did right now. I can breathe a little easier, at least Good luck to all of you brides! Keep me posted on your progress :-) amy

Hey! I'm looking at 10 October, and I've been fortunate enough to get a cool response from my program, they said it's your life, go for it, (in terms of asking for that week off). Here's an idea..... What we are planning on doing is super private and simple. We are actually copying my sister (who has experienced both the BIG wedding and the one we're going to do, and she prefered the latter) What we;ve been talking about is to go do an island wedding. Take a cruise to the island (St. John's or St. Thomas) adn get married on the beach! Here's the website... http://www.weddingstheislandway.com/ It's nice to have known someone that has done this to know that it all ran super smooothly. Congratulations everyone! Ellie

I just spent all day registering for cool kitchen stuff online instead of writing a paper like I was supposed to.... whoops. This is what I like to call "productive procrastination." It's when you do something that is useful to have done, but definitely does not have priority over that which you should be doing. Weddings give me so much opportunity for procrastinating from my studies. Anyone else have that problem?

I was in your ladies' situation last year. I applied for medical school, interviewed, got engaged in early Feb. 2003 and got married 2 days before medical school started (married Aug. 2 - started school Aug. 4). On top of working and planning the wedding, we were also planning on moving from CA to FL - had even gone out to FL, put a deposit on a place, contacted movers, etc. - then flew back to CA, and 2 days later (in July), heard from a CA med school that I got pulled off the waitlist. So had to fly down to check out new apartments at the new CA school, get the depsoit back from FL, deal with wedding plans, bachelorette party, bridal shower, etc.! It was crazy. All I can say is - have a GREAT maid of honor and a FABULOUS fiancee who will do lots of calling for you. Mine was great in that I would tell him what would have to be done and he would pitch in on whatever I told him needed to be done.
As for honeymoon, the immediate one was spent driving down I5 from SF to LA the Sunday after the wedding (school started Mon.) The real honeymoon was over X-mas break. We went to Australia - left the day my final was over (Dec. 17th) and was back Dec. 29th. School started Jan. 5th, so those of you thinking of Hawaii, have no fear. It is definitely doable. Plus jet-lag doesn't affect you as much going west so we didn't have any problems enjoying ourselves once we were there.
For those of you brides going crazy with wedding and med school, let me put it to you this way. If you can survive planning a wedding and dealing with the wedding day and family, medical school is a breeze (ok, well not a breeze, but definitely less hectic because your'e only worried about one thing as opposed to 5 million)!

Hi ladies - I will be more like a 2005 bride... maybe even later, but Drey told me to add myself here, so I figured I might as well! My sweetheart and I got engaged a little more than a week ago, and I'm so happy and excited. We are planning on a sort of long engagement, but I am getting excited about the planning anyway, and already thinking of dates and locations. I may go with something in the winter - a little unusual, but cheaper, and very beautiful and dramatic and romatic I think. Also could work out well with winter break.
How is planning going for all of you? Are things falling into place?

Hello... we getting married on July 31st. I'm not even a pre-med yet. Hopefully I'll get accepted to BA in bilogy for the fall semster:-). Anyway...Actually we are already married. we had a civil wedding + small ceremony for Mike's family in Indianapolis last October. I come from Poland and my parents couldn't imagine this big wedding with all the aunts and cousins. So we have a big church wedding in Poland in July I really can't wait for it... After our wedding in October we had an awsome weekend in a spa resort here in VA. we couldn't afford anything else: both, timewise and moneywise. we saved up a little bit and after the church wedding we're going for our honeymoon to UK - England, Scotlad and Irish. My husband is half Irish half Scottish and he's never been there before. And for me those Scottish and Irish wildernesses always seemed to be the most romantic places in the world :-). Anyway - Good luck to all of you. And although I once went through marriage preparation I'm still really excited. I'm really lucky that I have a chance to experience it twice...(with the same man )

Anyone planning a wedding will love this site! No matter how much my mom drives me nuts, I can always go to this site to remind me that it could be worse. :yikes: Lots of hysterical stories from "Wedding Etiquette Hell" Wedding E-Hell Warning--I lost several hours to this website. It's great procrastination.

We had originally planned to get married this October, but I now think Spring 2005 will work better because I plan to be interviewing for med school this fall and I can't decide what type of wedding I want (destination vs church and where ) I did (or should I say he did ) purchase my dress(it hasn't been altered yet), so at least I have that out of the way. I'll take this idea up again after the April MCAT but by then, we may have eloped!
