For a premed who wants to understand current happenings in medicine and healthcare politics - What magazines or journal would everyone recommend ? I looked up some but they sounded like they were more for physicians and med students. Also, any book recommendations that will help me clearly understand the healthcare debate and the state of healthcare in the country ?

This is a very good question and it is difficult to get a broad overview about what is going on. Medical journals do not really give you a good idea, so you have to go looking...

Magazines that may be helpful include:
Medical economics: memag.com
Internal medicine news: internalmedicinenews.com

However, it might be best to surf the web:
Google: news.google.com (scroll down to health care section)
CNN: cnn.com/health
CDC: cdc.gov

Hope this helps!
