I swore I’d never write a “what are my chances”-type post, but I’m kind of in a desperate situation, so I’m sorry to annoy anyone I am currently taking human anatomy, commuting to a different town an hour away. I guess I never took into consideration the fact that I may have to retake the MCAT in August, and the recruiter at my state school suggested I take that class. Here’s my predicament – until today, I thought I could study for the mcat while doing decently in anatomy. Stupid idea. I am applying only to DO schools, got a 25N, overall ~3.4, BCPM ~3.8. I want to go to my state school (OSU-COM), and their average stats are fairly high among the osteopathic schools. I don’t know if I should drop the class and get a big fat “W” on my transcript (I have a string of them from several years back) so I can re-prep for the mcat and get my application in late. Or I can take the class, avoid the W, and go with my current MCAT score. OR take the class AND study for the mcat, risking a nervous melt-down and a less-than-awesome grade/score. I only have a couple of days to drop with a W. So stressed!! Must calm down!!! :banghead: :weeping:

I personally think you should be fine, if nothing else with those stats you should be able to get into some DO schools--and you'd be applying early in the game. Additionally, the statistics given are just averages, if you are close (GPA and MCAT) I think you have a decent shot at it.

I would apply. But you cannot have your heart set on one school - life usually is not that convenient. Your numbers are better than mine and I got into LECOM. I would not take the MCAT again unless you really have to go to that one school. Your numbers are good enough for DO school. YOu have to make your PS stand out and have good letters of recommendation.

Thank you all for responding. I’m going to go ahead and apply with my current scores and hope for the best. I can only apply to a few schools due to geographical constraints – being a single mother, I feel like I should be in areas where I have friends/family around to help. my daughter’s dad has agreed to move where I go to school, but only as long as it’s not in "this state", or "that state"… If I don’t get in this year, at least that’ll give me plenty of time to study for next April.

OOh, Fraggle, my blood is boiling now. If your childs dad wants to see the child bad enough he will move. Do not let some man you do not live with dictate what you do for the rest of your life. It's YOUR LIFE, NOT HIS. I have been there, done that and I tell you it will be ok, do not hinder your chances out of fear of not having support. Life finds a way and it always works out. If you cut yourself short now, he will always have the upper hand and you will never have the freedom you deserve to go where you want. :banghead: Time to cut that string now or it will linger forever. It's very hard I know, but you will be better off in the end. :grouphug:
