Anyone here going to the Planned Parenthood march in April? I've never done the march/protest thing before -- I think it's been kind of played out since Selma -- but when I got the card about this one I just said, "Yup, going." Seems a lot of my college/post-college friends around the country felt the same way, so we're going to try to have a little reunion while we're all in DC.
I was kind of divided on whether or not to bring my daughter -- inclined against, since she's so young, but footage I saw on Now w/Bill Moyers definitely convinced me not to. It was a show about wacky new spy/provocateur action that local police depts are taking, going to political marches & protests & encouraging people to get violent. Had, among other clips, video of a DC undercover cop at the inaugural protest, dressed as a protester, randomly spraying people with pepper spray. (You can see the video clip at
http://www.pbs.org/now/thisweek/index_030504.html# -- scroll to the bottom of the page & see the COINTELPRO Again video. That episode is about five minutes into the clip.)So I'm thinking this is not the best potential environment for a baby. I'm ready, though.
What a bizarre time we're living in....
