This is kind of silly, but does anyone want to speculate about why Britney Spears had a c-section, and if it was elective or necessary? :scratchchin:

Saw an article that said it was elective 'cause she "couldn't deal with pain". Riiiight....a C-section is utterly pain free.

I suspect it was something else. An epidural with natural labor is about a pain free as you can get. C-section no pain???? :banghead: Stupid. And the doctor who performed it if that was the reason is stupid too. Having had 2 C-sections my self - I still have scar pain 6 years later. :weeping:

C- Section is Major abdominal surgery. They cut through 7 layers of tissue to get to the baby. It's major surgery and while you are awake - there is no pain due to anesthesia. If they did it without, you would probably die from the hearth strain. It's the healing after and trying to get up and move with all your abd muscles cut. It's no easy task and severely painful.

For some women...

...a c-section is preferrable.

I had an elective c-section, and for me it was a very good choice.

My second C-section was elective too, I had no choice due to small pelvis. Doesn't make it any less painful.

I've had a c-section, and two v-bacs (vaginal birth after ceasarean). Recovery from the c-section was no fun, but luckily it was my first baby, and I didn't have a toddler jumping on me or wanting me to pick him/her up. But I will admit that the perineal trauma of the v-bacs made for a more intensely uncomfortable recovery from those deliveries. I had stitches both times, and found that healing to be very very uncomfortable.

Just my experience... tired

So, it wasn't quite elective.

There are pros and cons to both vag birth and c-section. For some women, the risks of one outweigh the risks of the other. You can have your pain up front...or during recovery (or for some, both). Childbirth usually involves some pain...no matter which method you choose.

There are many women who suffer from a multitude of long-term problems after having a vaginal delivery as well.

Isn't it great that some women (along with their doctors) can choose the best option for them?
