Hi everyone...I've been gone for awhile. I am wondering how the clerkship matches work at each of your various schools. At KCUMB, we are a preceptor based clerkship program, and with over 250 of us students, many of us end up going to clerkships throughout the midwest and the east coast. I am really stressed because I want to stay in town with my 3 boys and DH, but the KC site is listed as overfull. I am appealing to the committee to stay but don't want to trust my family's fate to a random drawing. HELP please cry

Did you go talk to the Dean? You have 3 kids, you should have priority!!! Make your case directly with the higher-ups. Is it common for schools to send you all over the place for clerkships? I'm really surprised! Hope it all works out.

I got my first choice, KC. This year we had 17 go unmatched, which is high in my opinion. Even though I get to stay in my hometown, we are warned that we can be sent as far as a 90 mile radius from the school.

From what I understand, the sending out of students is more of a problem/occurrence/usual at DO schools. At KU Med, about a third of their class is sent to Wichita, but they have a core site there. And there are some DO schools that have core sites that all of their students go through.
