Will you vaccinate your children for H1N1?

There's a lot of confusion out there about the H1N1 vaccine. What's the general consensus here?

Please take the H1N1 Vaccine Poll on the MomMD home page (http://www.mommd.com/).

Have one in my refrigerator right now, waiting for my son to get home from school!
Absolutely. I have faith in the CDC and trust their recommendation.
I got mine and my youngest son got his already.

Yes, if it ever becomes available in my area. Already had mine.

Can't get my kids to get vaccinated (they are all in their 20's and think they know everything). Daughter has access to free vaccine at school. I don't think sons even have access at the moment.

Hell NO! The choice is between an engineered live virus and 25 mcg mercury? I'll pass.

On a related note (prob should start a new thread) I am so sick of the swine flu disease. I know people feel bad, but they just aren't that sick. Most people get it when I explain that they don't qualify for Tamiflu, but some just wig out!

I got mine. If I had kids, they'd be in line. But since my dogs can't catch it, not an issue.

When I looked at the poll results I was truly surprised at how many people are saying no to it. Seriously? It's just exactly like the seasonal flu vaccine, and I bet most of them get that one for themselves and their kids. Thankfully the majority of my patients are chomping at the bit to get it, I very rarely have to launch into my explanation of benefits (large) vs. risks (small). IF my idiot state health dept ever releases the dang thing.

I agree residentmom. Our hospital has lost 2 children in the last month to H1N1. It has killed more children so far than the seasonal flu kill annually and it is just getting started. The scary part is that they were healthy kids, not asthmatics or diabetics. I think its truly depressing that "patient autonomy" has given ignorant patents the power to dictate their children's access to preventative medicine. What more, those unvaccinated kids still can be out in public to infect the newborns and neutropenic patients who can't get the protection.

I received the vaccine the first day it was available and will be at the front of the line when it is ready for my kids. I encourage the paranoid to read "The Great Influenza" to get a perspective of what the influenza/epedemiology experts are so worried about.

Where did you get it for your kids? How is it available to you? Who do I need to contact to get one for mine!

It's not just kids, either - we have five 30-40 year olds in the MICU right now with H1N1, and only 1 is "high-risk" (she was 10 days post-partum). I'm not sure all of them will make it.

I'm on the wait list for my kids to get it, and am looking for a way to get my husband one. Got mine last week at work.

My pedi's office has a wait list, maybe yours does too or knows of how to get on one?
