If not medicine, then what would you do/be doing?

I'd like to think that eventually, I'll complete medical school. But if for some reason that doesn't happen for me, it will be because I decided to stick out what I'm currently doing, employed with the feds as a Scientist in a lab with Pathology flavor.
Kinda curious as to what other people's take on what their plan B is or would have been if they're already a Doc.

Interesting question, I am not sure if it is a plan B but I would love to teach kids and continue my hobby( photography and writing) as a job.

I would have made a fine accountant. I am all type-A like that. My backup plan was always labwork, maybe crime lab or something similar.

Probably nurse-midwife or lactation consultant. Maybe peds NP.
I wish I liked teeth more because dentistry is a genius backup plan.

I don't have a back up plan but if I could do it over again I would have pursued a PhD or an MD/PhD and worked as a scientist in a lab. I love lab work and as an introvert it's perfect. I would have loved Path but cannot get past the whole dead body thing you have to do in residency, lol.

Definitely research.
I seriously considered going that route anyway, but I'm thinking (starting med school next year, so still in planning stages) of doing IM and eventually moving into something like endocrinology. That's the field I'm doing undergrad research in, and what I really like is the continual learning aspect, which I can accomplish in other ways (without sac'ing rats every few months).

This has really evolved for me other the years. Before medical school, my decision point was seminary (and, G-d willing, potentially the priesthood) vs medical school. Now, several years later, if I leave medicine, I'll likely do an epi/stats masters or PhD then take a job as an analyst/stats consultant type person. Not a tenure-track position, just a job-job.
As an intern, I do think about quitting more days than not, but I think that's par for the course, frankly.

High school science teacher. Or research, perhaps... I am OBGYN but kinda wish I had done Pathology.

I'm still practicing family medicine, but my husband left clinical medicine to work in the medical education industry. He now actually blogs about non-clinical opportunities for physicians and coaches them through the career transition process. His site pops up on Google if you type "non clinical jobs"
