I have been out of clinical practice for awhile and found a physician reentry program which provides a mentored clinical experience, which is what I feel I need in order to be able to function adequately in a clinical job. However it costs a minimum of $18,500($8000 per month, for a minimum of two months, plus additional $2,500 for the initial evaluation and program setup.)I am feeling stymied because this program doesnt qualify for any kind of student loan whatsoever, federal or private.Has anybody else been in this situation or have any suggestions?

That is by far the most expensive program I have ever heard of. Keep looking! I will PM you.

I think you have figured it out now...but for the record, you would click on the flashing envelope next to My Stuff at the top of the page.

That's outrageous! Could you get mentoring by volunteering at a free clinic?

i did try that route but in the end it did not help me in terms of fulfilling the requirements for getting hospital priviledge. At the free clinic, you are supposed to work by yourself. So there is no way to get anyone to write you letters of recommendation.
just fyi, if you plan on just doing outpatient medicine, then it will prob be suffice. i talked to a recruiter, who told me if u at least volunteer or shadow someone then you might stand a better chance of securing an outpatient position.

HI there this is my first time on this site.
I wanted to see if I might find out more info also about the re-entry program. I also have been away from clinical practice and have been trying to figure out how to re-enter medicine. I was in ER medicine and later received training in holistic medicine with the idea of opening a holistic medical spa which never materialized just before the real estate fiasco. Anyway if you are able to share any info I would be very grateful. SGI-Val

I am almost done with my physician reentry program...
This has indeed opened up a lot of doors for me
Yes, it is very expensive and I am bitter about that but as my husband say, i am basically 'buying' my hospital priviledge back at a premium price. Hopefully I can make the money back soon.
If anyone has any question about doing it, I am glad to share..

Yes, I have lots of questions! How long was your program? Was it specialty-specific? How much did it really cost? Did you think it helped you get back up to speed, or did you feel that you were already competent to practice and this was just a formality? If you don't want to answer publicly, send me a PM. smile

Hi sahmd, it is 5000/mth. Initially i was asked to do 3 months but i managed to show them that i am seeing enough pts and i have all the supervisors agree that i am ready to be on my own and i am up to par. So it got cut down to 2mths. it was nephrology. honestly, like i mention earlier...it sort of just gives me a 'flashback'...and then all things fall in place..i am looking forward to my last day next Thurs !!! Yipee...
