As a full time Family medicine physician I do understand where Family medicine is not listed. I am the sole provider for my family and this obviously plays into my lifestyle & flexibility. It is hard to make the needed income working fulltime let alone part time to support a family and pay off medical school loans. That is not to say you dont have flexibility, you do. I chose to stop doing OB after I had my 3rd baby. Recently, I dropped the inpatient newborn care so now I do full time outpatient work. Still, I have alot more patient contact hours to keep up with the pay/RVU scale and with EMR-wow, lots more secretarial work. I put in several hours daily in typing/charting outside of office hours. I guess this is how FM can be seen as not so flexible. Just my point of view. I still love seeing patients but the extra work is often difficult and digs into my family time.
