Any thoughts? I was thinking of wearing my favorite black with white polka dots dress and black pumps. Should I wear tights?

What did you all wear? Current and former Med Students, please help me! smile

I just wore a nice black dress. What you have picked out sounds like it will be fine.

People wore all sorts of things - all dressed nicely of course. I think most women wore nice springy-looking dresses. I wore slacks and a collared shirt.

I wore a nice black dress also. Most of the girls in my class wore sundresses or churchy types of things.

most women in my class wore dresses, though many of them didn't have an appropriate understanding of what was appropriate.

strapless? not acceptable. this is a professional event, not a social one.
cut down to your xiphoid? not appropriate, i don't care how much skin we were showing in OMM lab those first three weeks..
side-boob? (i kid you not!) what the hell was she thinking?!?

i'd base a tights decision on the weather, and otherwise make sure my thighs and cleavage weren't showing (my dress was sleeveless, but since the jacket was on, it didn't matter). common sense, really, so it sounds like what you've got in mind is perfect.

Professional dress- black pants/dress shirt or dress was the theme for us as well.

Agree with the professional vs. social- make sure you are covered appropriately.

Have fun, take the moment in. smile

Maybe it's a regional thing but I'd totally wear a strapless dress to a white coat ceremony. It's not like you're seeing patients.

Well, it sounds like I'm somewhere between "covered" and social. My dress is form-fitting and above the knee, but no boobs showing and I think I could wear it in a patient setting (perhaps with a jacket or cardigan over it, just to cover my arms). smile But with the right shoes and jewelry, it could definitely be social. I'll let you ladies know what I see at the ceremony. smile

I agree on the strapless being a faux pas. This is a professional event, and you're ALWAYS being judged by faculty when they're around.

This is not a time to be trendy or fashionable, it's a time to err on the side of conservative dress.

Just my opinion.

I wore a dress, but looking back I think pants look a lot nicer with the coats. Plus, I saw this one girl with a dress so short her coat was longer (hehe). I'd just try to look stunning, its a big day and you want to look as good as you feel smile
