I have been out of school since 06. Any ideas of how or who to get letters of recommendation from when you don't have any current professors?

I am taking the MCAT Spring 12 for 2013 entry.

Thanks!

I went back five years after my original degree, and I used an original prof for my non-science letter. I just set up an appointment with him to go over my resume, intentions, and plans.

Pick profs who will remember you. This particular prof and I had a good, prof/student relationship, and he definitely knew me, and I bet he wrote a favorable letter (no idea - it was closed to me).

Applying to med school without any recent coursework may be problematic. I'd take some upper level classes which would also take care of your letter of recommendation issue.

Yeah - that's a good point, Path. I did do a completely second bachelor's degree that I applied to med school right after - I just used an old professor from five years back also from the first one.

I went back and did the second bachelors too- all of my letters came from that time period.

1- more current info on maturity/character/abilities
2- I went to a bigger undergrad the first time; so while there were a few professors I felt would know me, I wanted my letters to be stellar. And with a few years distance between me and undergrad, I didn't know that I would get the kind of letters you need for admissions committees. You want your letters to stand out, especially when schools are getting thousands of apps for 150-200 spots.

Have you stayed in touch with any of your professors?

Good luck! smile
