I am stressed about the letters of recommendation piece: I have a really good relationship with my Anatomy and Physiology instructor, but he is affiliated with the community college where I took those courses, so I am worried about that not being prestigious enough. Other than that, (for instructors) I am not sure how to go about making an impression with my current science instructors because I go to a really large University. Obviously, getting an A would be a good place to start...but I don't think that is enough, is it? This might seem like a stupid question. I know how to develop good relationships with people, it's not like I'm a robot, but I am worried about coming off as fake and pushy with a professor who literally works with hundreds of other students who also might be asking for letters of rec for med school or various other grad school ventures...

Thoughts and input would be greatly appreciated!

Volunteer clinically, do research in a prof's lab, get a part time job, do something useful/ important on campus... all of these are things that will not only get you a letter, but will also be helpful to have on your application. Just taking pre-med courses and making A's will not get you into med school... you need to show that you are more than just a student, that you can multitask and be involved in your community.

Thank you for your response residentmom! I guess I sort of left out that I have lots of clinical experience working as a Nurse's Assistant in the hospital, and also in the admitting department of a different hospital doing surgery schedule/physician scheduling etc.(about 2 yrs working full time) I also volunteer once a week at a home for patients with dementia. So I certainly plan on having letters from those people...but it looks as though there are quite a few med schools who want at least one letter from a science faculty member. I am concerned about the research piece because I work 36 hours a week, volunteer, and I am involved in extracurricular clubs (women's empowerment club and spanish club). With those things and my current courseload I don't see where I could fit in any research in a professor's lab - so that's why I am concerned about how I should go about getting a letter of recommendation from science faculty. Is it a poor choice to go with the professor for A & P from the community college who knew me really well and would probably write a stellar letter? Or should I try to get a letter from a science professor at the University I have transferred to to finish my undergrad, knowing that he or she doesn't know me very well and won't have much "super stellar" stuff to say about me? OR (sorry to exhaust you with this circle of thought) should I scratch my EC clubs all together and do whatever I can to get some sort of research position in a prof's lab?

As long as the letter is good and the person writing knows you it will not matter he works in a CC. Good lukc.
