I'm new to this forum. Most people I know have been encouraging me to get on a forum and share my story to others to give them support as well as to have a support team of my own. I have never met anyone with a similar story to mine and one day, I hope to. Anyway, here's how it goes.

My name is Heather. I am 22 years old. I have 3 children. A son (2 yo) and two twin girls ( 5 mo).

What drove me to medicine was probably my family. I was raised my a nurse mom and medicine has been the most prominent subject of my life.

I was pre-med right from the start of my undergrad career. I graduated in 3 years with not even a competitive gpa, 2.94. I did have many college credits that I acquired in high school (55 credit hours). The primary reason why I did not do well was because my grandmother was diagnosed with cancer and she died a year later as well as my rocky relationship with my boyfriend. Unfortunately, I was alone at the time because I hardly found friends in college and most in high school were in other universities. I also had my first child in undergrad.

I was lucky enough to get into a one year masters program that was supposed to be my story of redemption, but I got pregnant again with twins. Those in charge of the masters program wanted to give me another chance as they had seen a huge potential in me acquiring my dreams, so now I am pursuing another masters degree and I currently have a 3.00 gpa working to get a 3.6 gpa.

The reason why I was able to pick myself back up was because of finding God all over again (I was sort of in disbelief when so many bad things were happening to me in undergrad.) during my masters degree and finding support group in my Bible Study.

However, I have never lost faith in becoming a doctor, despite so many setbacks in life, I believe this is what I am meant to do. I have questioned that maybe my path should lie somewhere else, but in the end, I always came back. I think it's because most of my great experiences have been going to the doctor's office and witnessing their care and understanding as well as wanted to be there for people when they are at most in need.
