Does anyone know anything about MPH programs? I'm wondering if the name of the school you go to really matters. Does it matter which "track" you get your degree in (i.e. population health, international health, infectious disease), or once you have an MPH do you have the basic "tools" you need and can diversify? What about MD/MPH or MD/PhD programs? Is it worth the time, or might it be better to go the MD route and then get your MPH at a later date?

Thanks!

i have been told by one med school admissions coordinator that the health admin/promotion options don't look as competitive to adcoms as would another option like biostats or epidemiology - but that's just for one school, so you might ask at the schools you're planning to apply to...

I have an MPH in Community Health Education. I think it is very useful to have before med school because it has taught me many of the things that I will need to use to enhance my medical degree. I basically think...What happens if you don't finish the degree for some reason? Then you'll have a nice degree to fall back on!

Having an MPH will not make or break you in the medical school process. If you have one great but the bottom line for medical school is GPA (mostly undergrad), MCAT, LOR's, EC's, leadership, research. If you are really interested in an MPH you can always pursue that during your medical school after MS2 is the most taken route...I plan on getting an MPH during medical school.
