For those of you applying this year you may want to consider applying to Mayo. Mayo has a small class size of 42 students so you get tons of individualized attention and many resources at your fingertips. It has one of the lowest if not the lowest average debt for medical students in the nation and their board scores are well above the average year after year. Rochester is a great place for those of us with children and has been ranked as one of the best cities to live in by US News (cannot remember for what years though). The faculty to student ratio is one of the highest in the nation, and faculty that teach at Mayo volunteer to do so...and there is a waiting list to teach. If you would like to see more in the life of an MS1 at Mayo go to http://www.mayo.edu/mms/ and at the bottom click on "A day in the life..." it will give you a glimpse of what MS1 will entail at Mayo. I will be posting my experiences as I go through them periodically on this thread. Good luck to all of you applying this cycle! you are almost there laugh

Thanks, efex01! I loved the documentary! It sounds like an ideal place to be trained to be a healer. Again, very happy for you!

Best,
Scout

Yup and that is one of the major reasons I chose Mayo. You will NOT fall btw the cracks for sure at this school! for some folks small class size is a plus while for others not for they do not like small class sizes so it depends on what you are used to.

It sounds very ideal, will probably be a close-knit class, and great learning. Isnt mayo really into their applicants having research?

Mayo is an institution where research is conducted but I do not think that the lack of resarch will automatically disqualify you from getting accepted. Your best bet if you are remotely interested in applying is to e-mail or call someone at the office and ask them if research is a must.

Thanks---Im gonna email them and ask if not having done research would have a great impact on acceptances----cause as it looks, Im not going to be able to. One thing that I like is how they seem to emphasize diversity in all realms.

Absolutely, and let me tell you they do not just talk the talk the actually walk it! that is why I love Mayo they DO emphasize how important it is to bring a diverse class together...it just makes sense to do this.
