Welcome to the MomMD Mentoring Program!

Your wisdom is a valuable gift to share. Mentoring can be an enjoyable and rewarding experience for all concerned. MomMD Internet mentoring connects mothers at specific stages in their medical careers with helpful, experienced physicians or medical students with similar backgrounds. Medical students can mentor premedical students, physicians can mentor medical students, other physicians or residents. MomMD hopes that this mentoring will enhance and strengthen women's careers in the medical field. Relationships are one-to-one and participation is voluntary. Please browse the listings and contact people directly (using their preferred method – please no phone numbers, mailing addresses or other personally identifiable contact info).

MomMD offers the following guidelines:

  • Please describe your professional or academic interests (including undergraduate major, intended or actual medical specialty, research or career interests)
  • Important outside activities (including meaningful volunteer experience, hobbies, leisure activities).
  • Optional: Please provide some insight into important personal characteristics such as your gender, age, race/ethnicity, number of children (and when in your career you had them), relationship status, personal qualities, age at the start of medical school, location, etc.
  • Once you have found a partner we suggest you return to the discussion forum and edit your original message and replace your text with the phrase “No Longer Available”.
  • The mentor and mentee should determine together the parameters of their relationship.
    - establish a timeline for your mentoring relationship (e.g. one year).
    - maintain confidentiality and respect towards each other.
    - establish your preferred method of communication (e-mail).
    - exchange personal information with each other at your own discretion.
    - facilitate open communication.

Please note: MomMD performs no checks on participants' credentials or experience and cannot be held liable for any misuse of the program. The mentoring program is designed for establishing a long-term mentoring relationship with one individual. If you are looking for general advice or sharing of information with other women in medicine please use our regular discussion forums. This is a public forum where personally identifying information is used at your own risk.
