5 Tips to Manage Third Trimester Symptoms

The third trimester is the last trimester of pregnancy, and it starts in the 28th week. By this time the baby is well formed but the organs are developing and getting used to functioning in preparation for the following day. The mother’s belly continues to grow and as they walk they will often feel waddle. At this stage of pregnancy, to waddle is okay and a good sign. It has not been easy for the body for the past 27 weeks. It has been creating cells, bones, muscles and organs for the growth of the baby. In addition, it had to create extra cells for the uterus and the placenta to facilitate proper feeding to the fetus for growth. The mother’s body organs and especially the kidney and the liver have been processing waste products from two people all this time. Therefore, for mothers to waddle at this point is ok. However, as the baby continues to grow and as birth nears, there is a need for frequent checkups. It is advisable to go for a checkup once in every two weeks up to the 36th week and then make it weekly after that.

1. Third-trimester symptoms
In third-trimester pregnancy, you experience different conditions from what you were used to before. Mothers will feel the urge to use the bathroom more often. Many will complain of feeling short of breath. However, by now they will have found a comfortable position to sleep in as compared to the past. Another new symptom will be leg cramps. This may lead to a lot of restlessness and back aches. These can be corrected by proper uptake of minerals in the right dosage. Increase absorption of magnesium and calcium. Many mothers will also complain of constipation at this stage of pregnancy. Pregnancy is known to slow digestion of food such that it takes long in the digestive tract. To avoid this problem, mothers are advised to take more fluids during their pregnancy. They are, however, advised to stick to healthy fluids like water and fresh fruit juices. Eating foods with a lot of fibers will also help in the digestion process. Slight exercising is also helpful to the mother at this stage. This will not only help in digestion but also in the correction of the varicose condition. Varicose is the weakening and appearance of broken spots on the arteries and veins that are as a result of increased blood flow during pregnancy. Some home remedies are recommended to help with varicose conditions.

2. The baby takes up all the room
Your child is taking much space in your belly. You will be feeling hunger pangs more often. However, it will become more challenging to eat enough for one sitting. You will be eating more often than any other time during your pregnancy. The baby has grown bigger, and you will see stretch marks on your belly and feel fatigued easily. You will need to adjust so as not to minimize the discomfort. You can control the stretch marks by using coconut oil to massage your belly. It may not prevent them from appearing on the belly but will help soothe the belly and reduce the itching as it stretches to accommodate the growing baby. At this stage, ensure that you get enough of rest and sleep. Take some time to have some exercises to help you adjust.

3. Eat well and often
Pregnant mothers in their third semester are expected to gain at least a pound in every week. This can be achieved by eating a pregnancy diet. More of healthy fats are important at this level to prepare the mother for lactation. It is advisable to eat more of whole foods that will provide the fats instead of processed and packaged foods that will contain a lot of Trans fats. The development of the baby’s brain will depend on the health of the mother. Focusing on a healthy diet is, therefore, important for mothers at this stage.

4. Spend more time with your partner
If you are married, your partner will be given a leave at some point during the third trimester. This is important as he will be there to take a good care of you. However, it is important to take the advantage of this and spend as much time together. Connect with your partner about what you feel and any concerns you could be having. You need time to plan for your baby together. Do some things together, play and toy around. This will help ease stress in these last weeks of pregnancy.

5. Prepare for childbirth
Throughout the pregnancy week by week, the mother must have been thinking and preparing for childbirth. However, in these last weeks, it is the time to make candid plans. You will be anxious, excited and will experience hormonal changes. Do exercises that are not tiring and eat well.
