Early in JRR Tolkein's "The Hobbit," there is a reference to Bilbo's seed cakes. As we used to pretend we were Hobbits a lot as children, my mother would send us off with a few slices of these. The fact that my younger brothers would later lose her wedding ring in the neighbor's woodpile is not entirely irrelavent. The One Ring did make it back to her, but we had to dismantle the entire yard to find it. She bought them a cheap costume ring to use from then on. So it's a recipe near and dear to my heart.
