I am debating to myself---is it worth it to go through 4 years of medical school and 3 years of residency to become a family medicine doctor or should I just go to PA school and then try to get into dermatology or some specialty? What do you think?
A lot of people are asking themselves that same question, now that there are so many opportunities for mid-level practitioners. I think it all comes down to what's most important to you. The PA path seems more family friendly and requires less of a sacrifice of time and money. The MD path gives you better training and greater autonomy in patient care after training. Of course, that is an oversimplification, but you get the idea. Either is a good way to get into medicine, but it all depends on your own situation and what is important to you.
