Option of NOT doing a residency

If you plan to work in the U.S. you need a residency. Period. You will have trouble getting hospital privileges and insurance certification without it. And plan on studying for your residency boards because once you are no longer board eligible you might as well be a GP, (i.e. no insurance certification although you would probably be able to keep hospital privileges which you already had..)
