I am currently a medic in the Air Force, wanting to pursue a career as a physician (most likely as a civilian, but quite possibly civilian). For a while now I have been dying to get this tattoo..it is a green maple leaf on a purple background, fairly small, to go on my wrist. I am wondering what the workplace stigma on tattoos nowadays, and if this will affect my ability to be hired.

Depends on the city/community. Some places/contexts it may be held against you.

I'd guess that any place east of California would very likely hold having a tat against you.

It just depends. There are several docs of many specialties with tattoos that I work with in the Midwest. Most have them in "professional" places so you wouldn't know they had a tattoo unless you discussed it with them.

Others have wrist, ankle, or foot tattoos and they are mostly women.

Personally I don't mind tasteful tattoos, but I would probably think twice about putting anything in an area visible while wearing professional clothing.
